Elizabeth Bass
About
Elizabeth has practiced matrimonial law exclusively since law school. Her practice has focused on complex high net-worth divorce and custody disputes. Prior to joining Berkman Bottger Newman & Schein, Elizabeth worked at a prominent New York matrimonial firm. Before starting in private practice, Elizabeth completed a three-year clerkship with The Honorable Laura E. Drager, in a dedicated matrimonial part in the New York State Supreme Court, New York County. As a court attorney, she had the unique opportunity to learn the practice of matrimonial law from the inside. Elizabeth assisted in drafting court decisions and orders, negotiating settlements, conferencing cases, reviewing uncontested and contested divorce papers and tracking developments in the law.
As a partner with the firm, Elizabeth represents individuals in all aspects of matrimonial and family law, including property division, custody, relocation, child support, spousal support and post-judgment matters, as well as in negotiating prenuptial, postnuptial and separation agreements.
Elizabeth is committed to providing clients with exceptional care, tailored to meet the intricacies of each case. Elizabeth is a strong proponent of settling divorce and related matters as amicably as possible for the benefit of the parties and their children. She strives to guide clients to reasonable resolutions of their matters and to handle cases efficiently. Elizabeth is known for her well-reasoned and thoughtful approach to the practice of matrimonial law, and is not afraid to litigate aggressively for any case that calls for it.
Elizabeth is a graduate of Tulane University. She received her J.D. from New York Law School.
Elizabeth has provided pro bono services to Sanctuary for Families, the New York Center for Juvenile Justice and the AIDS Law Society. She is an active member of the Matrimonial & Family Law Committee of the New York Women’s Bar Association and the Family Law Committee of the New York State Bar Association.
Elizabeth co-authored the Chambers Global Practice Guide “Child Relocation Guide for New York”.
Elizabeth has been named by her peers as a “Rising Star” in Family Law in the New York Metro Super Lawyers Edition for years 2019 through 2025, a recognition bestowed on fewer than 2.5% of the attorneys in New York State.
